Best Bread for your Buck

Since we are counting every penny, Josh and I decided it would be in our best interest (and the interest of our future collegiate children) to compare what we pay for food in our new neighborhood. We want to make sure the high cost of living in Chicago isn't killing our grocery bill more than it should.

We generated a list of 10 items: milk, eggs, bread, turkey, cheese, Windex, juice, chips, ice cream, and Blackstone Merlot. Keeping with the same brand at each store and eliminating 2 for 1 deals, we put Dominicks, Jewel, and Meijer up against each other.

(FYI, my money was on Jewel and Josh's was on Dominicks.)

Here were the totals:
Dominicks $42 Jewel $42.20 Meijer $40

Alas, since Meijer is the furthest from our apartment, we figured that what we would spend in gas cost would just about even it out to the other competitors. So for all you big house buyers out there who shop at Walmart and Meijer buying groceries, good for you!

We however, are staying loyally committed to our down-the-street Dominicks.

note: we would like to acknowledge our math and science teachers over the years who taught us what a constant variable was in order to effectivley carryout this project.
